Why you'll love my recipe.

Easy cleanup

Throw everything into one dish and bake. That’s it!

Packed with flavor

Lots of fresh garlic, Boursin cheese and sun-dried tomatoes are to thank for all the flavor!

Ingredients and substitutions

Boursin cheese: This is the star ingredient. Boursin Garlic and Fine Herbs Cheese.

Orzo: Good quality pasta matters. I like to use Barilla or DeLallo.

Sun-dried tomatoes: Use sun-dried tomatoes that are packed in oil. They are softer and more flavorful. Add a splash of the sun-dried oil for extra depth and flavor.

Spinach: Fresh baby spinach adds freshness and pop of color. If using frozen, thaw and squeeze out excess moisture before adding.

Garlic: Lots of fresh garlic! Avoid pre-minced garlic from jars if possible.

Chicken stock: Use a low sodium stock or broth to control the salt levels.

Parmesan: Just a dash of parmesan for flavor.

Heavy cream: Although the recipe is creamy on its own, heavy cream balances the sharpness of the cheese. You can substitute for half and half.

Spices: I like to use dried basil, dried thyme and crushed red pepper flakes.

What is Boursin cheese?

Boursin is a soft, creamy, spreadable cheese similar to cream cheese, originating in France. With many flavor variations our there, this recipe uses the Boursin Garlic and Fine Herbs Cheese. You can find it at your local grocery store or Costco.

Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes until most of the liquid is absorbed. Expert tips for making Boursin pasta

Use the right liquid ratio

The general rule to follow is 2 cups of liquid per 1 cup of orzo.

Avoid overbaking

Baking just until bubbling around the edges and most of hte liquid is absored. Overbaking will dry out the sauce.

What protein can I add to my pasta?

For added protein, stir in cooked chicken breast, sausage, shrimp, chickpeas or white beans. This recipe is a great base for add-ins.

Can I substitute the parmesan for another cheese?

Yes! If you don’t have parmesan, use any cheese you have on hand.

What can I use instead of orzo?

Zucchini noodles: A low-carb and gluten-free option, zucchini noodles pair nicely with Boursin. Their mild flavor lets the sauce shine while offering a light and healthier alternative. Cook time is 10-15 minutes less or else the zucchini becomes mushy.

Broccoli, bell peppers or cauliflower: All are a delicious alternative to pasta!

Occasions to Serve

Main course: Perfect for a quick weeknight dinners, casual get-togethers, and make-ahead lunches.

Dinner parties or potluck: Inspired by the comforting style of Ina Garten, this dish brings together simple ingredients, rich flavor, and a touch of elegance. Easy to portion and holds up well for buffet-style meals.

Comfort food night: Similar to mac and cheese, Boursin Orzo Bake is a comforting creamy pasta but more sophisticated.

How to store leftover Boursin Orzo

Once the pasta is completely cooled, transfer leftovers to an airtight container. Refrigerate for up to 3 days. Re-heat in the microwave at 15 second intervals or on the stovetop in a small saucepan until warm. Adjust creaminess by adding a splash of cold water or heavy cream when reheating.

    1. This recipe actually makes quite a lot but if you’d like to double, I would use another separate pan. Doubling in the same pan puts the pasta at risk for overcooking.
